How I Learned To Love Jogging and Coach Carvey!

by Mark Naylor
(England)

British National Record Holder and Olympian

British National Record Holder and Olympian

I used to be pretty fit. I loved sports and was very active, playing soccer, rugby, track & field, cricket, biking, hiking, weights.

I was fortunate in the genes I inherited at birth and went on to compete in two Olympic Games as a high jumper for Great Britain. And I was always tall, slim and athletic.

But once I got past 45 my body started to change. I started to get a gut. My abs became a thing of the past. I got out of breath walking up hills. Things started aching. So two years ago I decided to do something about it.

Because I had a sprinter/jumper type of physique, and the cardiovascular systems to match, I hated jogging or any endurance-based training.

But Scott, a.k.a. Coach Carvey persuaded me to try some activities I'd never before had any desire to do; fast walking, hiking, trail running, hill work, adding cardio work in the gym.

I followed his advice and now, less than two years later, and at the age of 50, I can hike in the local mountains for twelve hours straight and walk 8000' up one of the toughest trails in the nation, without resting.

My body fat is now 10% and my blood pressure is at it's lowest levels since I was in my twenties. I'm in the best shape I've been since I last competed in the Olympic Games in 1984.

Plus, Scott is bloody funny and good company!
